Backpacking around the country, by Israel's excellent Egged bus service, living in hostel dormitories - at about $10 a day for the whole family. The SA Rand was at par with the US Dollar at that time while the Shekel/Dollar exchange rate was 40 to 1, so living in Israel was relatively cheap for us. |
