South Africa's Pro-Israel but Anti-Natanyahu policy |
|
Dear Editor
I Refer to the anti-Natanyahu policy of our government as reported on page 4 of the Pretoria News of August 4, 1997: It is incredible that our government has no sympathy with the fact that the Israeli government needs to take measures to be secure in the little scrap of land left to them. Meanwhile the Arabs in the Middle East have about 600 times more land allocated to them than that Israel has to fit herself into. It could very well be that the peace-without-security Oslo agreement the Rabin/Peres/Beilin trio had committed Israel to, will prove to be "the agreement with death and the grave (devil)" Isaiah 28 refers to.
The great irony of the matter is that the Palestians cannot survive without the economic infrastructure the Jews have created in the land since they started returning to it in the late 1800s. Before that the land was actually very sparsely populated and desolate. One, however, needs to ask, "why weren't the Palestians able to become a viable society in the former Palestine when they had the chance to do so?"
The Bible states the following about the return of the Jews to Israel and the restoration of the country: Isaiah 60:10 "Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you....... And Isaiah 61:5 Aliens will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
The Arabs have actually contributed greately to the re-building, and it has been a lifeline to them, but they have shot themselves in the foot by being a security risk to the Israelis. Now their function has been taken over by thousands, probably much more than a hundred thousand, foreigners from other countries like Rumanians, Filipinos, Thais, etc.
Mrs Hanan Ashrawi mentioned in an interview with the press after the recent Mehane Yehudah bombing, that religion also contributes to the conflict. She referred to Judaism, Islam and the Mother Mary, meaning probably Christianity with the latter. Inherently, however, Judaism is concerned with the preservation of Jewishness and not so much with land (except the Promised Land), while Christianity has to do with salvation of the individual, not land- except for the wars of the misguided Crusaders. Many examples, however, can be cited to prove that Islam is a militant territorial religion, that it conquers territory and then proclaims Islam and Sharia law over it. In fact, Mohammed himself signed a peace treaty with the rulers of Mecca to gain time to become strong enough to defeat them. After that his followers conquered north Africa and even parts of Europe. Today we see examples of this militant fundamentalism in most countries where Islam has a well established presence, like Algeria, Nigeria, Sudan and Egypt to mention a few. And also, of course, the activities of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other smaller fundamentalist groups in Israel (with the support of Yasser Arafat and the PA), and the Iranian and Syrian backed by Hisbullah in south Lebanon.
It can therefore be categorically stated, that without the militancy of Islam there could have been peace in Israel and other countries mentioned above.
Yours sincerely
Philip Blom
